If you’re the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, would you rather play against Winnipeg or Edmonton in the CFL’s East Semifinal?
Earlier this week, I asked Ticats head coach Kent Austin that question.
His answer was expected, “It doesn’t matter who you play.”
I also asked Austin which matchup would favour his team, but he didn’t offer any insight there either, saying, “either team is going to be a real challenge.”
I don’t blame Austin for not sharing his true thoughts, he doesn’t want to provide either opponent with any bulletin board material.
But when you look at the standings and how Hamilton played against the Bombers and Eskimos, the matchup the Cats should want is clear.
It’s hands down the Blue Bombers.
Yes, the Cats lost both their games against Winnipeg this season and went 1-and-1 vs. Edmonton.
But with apologies to Calgary, the Eskimos might be the most dangerous team entering the playoffs.
Esks QB Mike Reilly is really heating up and I don’t think defensive coordinators want to game plan for super receivers Adarius Bowman and Derel Walker.
Winnipeg has played extremely well this season, but I’d rather go up against Matt Nichols than Reilly and the defending champs.
