In an age of rampant political hyperbole, it seems that we’re always told that any given election is the most important election of all time, and so it is, with today’s American election to select the next President of the United States.
But, there’s more truth than fiction in that assertion for this election.
American voters aren’t just selecting a new President, they could well be choosing a new and very different approach to how the most powerful country in the world influences global affairs.
Donald Trump vows to rip up NAFTA and other trade agreements; he wants to pull back America’s commitment to NATO.
He wants to deport millions of American residents and ban Muslims from entering America.
Those naive and short sighted policies would have significant and dire consequences for Canada and other American allies and trading partners.
It’s difficult to fathom that a candidate who espouses such racist and xenophobic attitudes and such an ill-informed view of world affairs is this close to the White House.
Hillary Clinton, on the other hand, is a capable and compassionate politician who can provide the intelligent and insightful leadership that America so desperately needs right now.
What happens in America matters to all of us.
For the good of America and the world, the farcical Trump circus must end today.
