The numbers are startling.
A new study shows the Hamilton LHIN has had the most opioid-related deaths in the province over the last five years.
The Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences study shows 444 opioid-related deaths in the Hamilton, Niagara, Haldimand and Brant area from 2009 to 2013.
The CBC reports there were 96 deaths in 2013, which was the highest in Ontario.
The study also found fatal opioid overdoses jumped 242 per cent between 1991 and 2010 in the province.
