‘Stop the hate’ , and ‘He’s not our President’ were two of the common slogans on placards in numerous Anti-Trump protests that were held around the United States yesterday.
It seems that many Americans are uncomfortable with the fact that a misogynist , racist egomaniac will be their next President.
Fact is, their protests are too little , too late.
Americans who were fearful of a Trump Presidency could have and should have done something about it on election day rather than waiting until the votes were counted to express their anger.
Instead, many left leaning or moderate voters supported marginal third party candidates .
It’s their democratic right to vote for whomever they want, but such protest votes only increased the chances of a Trump victory.
Moreover, it seems that many Democratic voters simply stayed home and didn’t vote at all.
Donald Trump actually got significantly fewer votes than Republican candidate Mitt Romney received four years earlier, yet it was enough for Trump to claim victory this time around.
The numbers show that even though many Republicans disliked Trump, they voted for him anyway.
Traditional Democratic support just never showed up and they have to live with the consequences of not voting.
As Earnest Hemingway said, you get the government you deserve.
