Today we acknowledge and pay tribute to those who serve our country and remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
It is Remembrance Day in Canada.
It is a day steeped in tradition that is demonstrated annually when we gather by the Cenotaph in Gore Park.
Equally the tradition of the ceremonial broadcast on CHML.
For me it is a day I remember the stories my mother would tell us about her upbringing.
Growing up in Scotland during World War II as a child.
‘Going to school one day only to find the chimney standing’
‘Running to the air raid shelter in the middle of the night in PJ’s’.
‘Playing hide n’ seek in bombed out buildings’
Those stories resonate differently, as you age.
Which is why I share them with my kids, today.
Lest We Forget.
I’m Scott Thompson.
