The idea of photo radar on the LINC and Red Hill Valley Parkway is back on the table.
Ward 4 Councillor Sam Merulla is suggesting that the province be asked to allow that they be deemed “community safety zones”, making them eligible for photo radar under the terms of new provincial legislation.
Merulla insists it is a “legitimate argument”, since thousands of schoolchildren are transported along those busy routes each day.
His motion has been approved by the public works committee.
Premier Kathleen Wynne, in announcing that municipalities will be allowed to use photo radar in school and community safety zones, has stated that too many people are being injured and killed by drivers who speed.
Similar statements are heard around the city council table, particular in regards to the Red Hill, during periodic debates about safety and lighting on the busy road.
