Hamilton is falling behind in tracking vaccinations for the city’s 54,000 children in daycare and grade school, according to The Hamilton Spectator.
Public Health Units are required by law to do so but the city’s public health department says it doesn’t have the necessary resources.
Associate Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Jessica Hopkins says not only does it mean the city is in non-compliance, but she says there’s a critical information gap in the event of an outbreak.
She has asked for a “reallocation” of four public health staff to help the department catch-up.
The request has not yet been ratified by council.
