The trial of five Hamilton ACTION police officers accused of writing bogus tickets has put a spotlight on the overall practice of ticketing panhandlers.
One man telling the court he’s been ticketed 285 times with over 20 thousand dollars in fines.
He says he’ll get a 65 dollar ticket for asking for a quarter.
Hamilton anti-poverty activist Tom Cooper says most homeless people have mental health issues and need treatment and help to get off the streets.
He says that should be coming from the province adding it’s not a policing issue.
