There would be a one million dollar cost to offering the current living wage of $15.85 per hour to all employees with the City of Hamilton.
The increase would affect 312 “seasonal” and “casual” city workers, as well as 181 at the Hamilton Public Library.
General Manager of Community Services Joanne Priel says caretakers, seasonal cooks, crossing guards, servers at golf courses and library “pages” would be affected.
$591 thousand dollars of the cost would be borne by the city. The other $441 thousand would be the library’s responsibility.
The report has been presented to the audit, finance and administration committee and referred to Hamilton’s General Issues Committee for further discussion.
