Amalgamated Transit Union Local 107 will salute the 1906 HSR transit strike tonight with a rally outside of city hall.
It marks a mounting fight to keep both power and transit public.
Union President, Eric Tuck says history is repeating itself in that citizens are finding utilities and transit prices out of reach.
One of the biggest concerns revolves around the operation of forthcoming transit lines in the province, like the LRT.
“My understanding is that it will be the subject of negotiations” said Tuck.
Adding, “HSR should be the operator and maintainer of that system, we believe we are much more efficient than Metrolinx or any of the private companies they could contract out to.”
Tuck says putting the LRT under HSR control means that the transit system will remain answerable to the ridership through local elections.
