Marie Henein is the lawyer who defended Jian Ghomeshi in his sexual assault case.
She has been invited to give a speech at a series of universities in eastern Canada next year.
It has some very upset that a person who successfully defended as sexual assault case would be allowed to speak at a university.
Even referring to it as, traumatizing others who may have been assaulted.
Since when is silencing someone who could shed light on an issue a good thing, especially at an institute of higher learning?
Can they not see the value of having a prominent female attorney speaking to the student body?
I can understand the sensitivity of the case and much more needs to be done to help prepare victims.
But not at the expense of the rights and freedoms we all have.
I am in no way condoning the behaviour of the accused.
However, anyone who has read anything about this case knows the only reason it saw a court room was due to celebrity and public outrage.
Once in court it was quickly revealed, the evidence given against the accused was simply not credible, leaving the judge no choice.
Maybe we should focus on improving that, rather than vilifying the attorney, who upheld the law.
