With the process of finding a developer to build a new residential community on Pier 8 underway, some attention is now shifting to the issue of parking.
Ward 5 Councillor Chad Collins notes that a variety of stakeholders will be affected as more than 15 hundred residential units are built at the west harbour location.
Collins says that includes boaters, as the marina is expanded by 650 slips, and visitors to waterfront businesses and amenities such as Sarcoa and the outdoor skating rink. That area, at Pier’s 6 and 7, is not designated for parking in the long-term.
Project Lead Chris Phillips has told the West Harbour Development Subcommittee that the strategy has not been finalized, though he acknowledges the need for new parking to be created.
Phillips adds that “exactly where that would be and exactly what that would look like” is yet to determined.
