A familiar name will be returning to Hamilton’s industrial sector.
The Stelco flag will fly once again at Hamilton and Lake Erie Works as U.S. Steel Canada changes its name.
In a YouTube video posted today, head of Local 8782, Bill Ferguson calls the name change the “worst kept secret” but also welcomes the change. He says while it doesn’t mean a deal has been reached, it signifies independence and a step towards becoming Stelco again.
Earlier this week, U.S. Steel Canada was granted another extension of its creditor protection, as it continues talks and tries to negotiate a purchase agreement with Bedrock Industries.
The company plans to hoist the flags tomorrow morning outside of its plant in Hamilton; a flag raising in Nanticoke will take place in the afternoon at 1:30.
