The Canadian Taxpayers Federation has brought its “Stop High Energy Bills” campaign to Burlington.
The organization’s sixth billboard, highlighting the cost of the carbon tax, has been unveiled along Plains Road.
Christine Van Geyn, Ontario Director of the CTF, says they’ve selected locations that are high-traffic areas or close to a local MPP’s office.
She notes that the government brought in the carbon tax at a time when Ontarians “can’t afford to turn on their lights,” and will now be paying even more to heat their homes and commute to work — things she describes as “basic necessities of life.”
Van Geyn adds that Hamilton is in their future plans, suggesting that such an initiative would target NDP Leader Andrea Horwath, a supporter of cap-and-trade policies.
Last week, one of the group’s billboards went up in the Barrie riding of Conservative leader Patrick Brown.
Given the current unpopularity of the Liberal government, Van Geyn said the CTF feels “there’s a good chance that it’s going to be one of the leaders of the opposition that forms the next government,” which is why the group is choosing to target those leaders’ areas.
