This was one of those weekends when you put your head on the pillow on Sunday night and thought, life is pretty good.
Of course, it all started on Friday afternoon when the Toronto/Golden Horseshoe bid was awarded the 2015 Pan Am Games.
Hamilton stands to be a huge winner as the infrastructure for the Games rolls out.
A new stadium, a velodrome, a new aquatic center at McMaster and some much needed upgrades to Copps Coliseum are just some of the benefits coming out way.
Make no mistake about it, there is still a lot of work to be done.
But, it was a big day for Hamilton. And, I can’t help thinking that , somewhere up in Heaven, Dr. Gene Sutton is still smiling. Without her, this may never have happened.
Then, yesterday, the Tiger Cats had a huge victory that gave this city it’s first playoff game in eight years.
It wasn’t a Grey Cup win, not yet anyway; but it was another positive step for a team that is making us more proud every week.
We’ve certainly had our share of bad luck over the years.
But , after a weekend like this one, it’s nice to bask in the warm glow of success isn’t it ?

Yes, I suppose it is exciting for some but what are we really celebrating?....more opportunity for the vast majority of us to sit on the sidelines and be mere spectators to other people's achievments? Yes, it's true. We've become a society of watchers and not do'ers. We go to events to simply watch others. We turn on the computer to visually stimulate ourselves with endless, mostly useless, garbage and when we're bored of that, we can always go to the old standby.....TV.....so we can further our bad habit of watching others. The NFL and NASCAR figured this out a long time ago and have capitalized huge.
And people wonder why reality shows are so popular? They cater to our need to simply watch others do stuff.
It's kind of sad really.
Congratulations to Hamilton anyway.

Sure, more playgrounds for the well-heeled and rich is much better than decent paying jobs for ordinary hardworking Ontarians.
The money for these new facilities doesn't fall from heaven, Bill. Taxpayers will still pay for it. We never needed to be awarded the games to get permission to spend our own money on white elephants. Do you really believe that all it took was for a one-time sporting event to change the Pan-Am facilities you mention from being economically unsound into having a net positive impact on our community? That is complete BS, especially since the eventual cost to taxpayers for building these shiny sporting edifices will end up being obscenely over-budget when completed.
