Yesterday a birthday came and went with little more fanfare than a press release and perhaps a good dunking or two.
Yesterday was the 100th birthday of the Oreo cookie.
I know what you’re saying, in the day of the robo calls and raising gas prices who cares about the Oreo?
Hah! Those are great reasons to celebrate the Oreo. As is any occasion that needs a little cheering up!
Did you know that?
-Oreo cookies were originally sold in bulk for 30 cents a pound.
-More than $1.5 billion of Oreo cookies are sold every year.
-Canada is the fourth biggest Oreo market in the world, following the United States, China, and Venezuela.
-The Canadian Oreo bakery in Montreal bakes more than 1.1 million Oreo cookies in an eight hour shift.
-There are more than 23 million Oreo Facebook fans in 183 countries.
-Twist, Lick and Dunk is a part of our psyche with 50 per cent of all Oreo eaters pulling apart their cookies before eating.
- Women twist them open more often than men.
And you say you don’t care!
I’m Scott Thompson.
