Distracted driving-stories please
Posted 3/9/2010 5:50:00 AM
I saw something yesterday that just about blew my socks off. There was this guy driving erratically on the QEW. He was weaving and bobbing. As I got closer and while trying to plan my move to safely get by this guy, I saw why he was driving so poorly. He was emphatically discussing something with his wife. And he was waving his hands all over the place. Just a thought, driving you car should be more important than making a conversational point.
I also saw a man who was legal as far as the hands free law is concerned. He had a dash mounted I-Pod Nano. Problem is that, being over 40, the font of the Nano is so small, he couldn't read the small screen. So, he leaned over, closer and closer till his head was below the dash.
Now this is not a condemnation of the hands ...

Do as Flaherty Says, Not as Flaherty Does!
Posted 3/6/2010 12:26:00 PM
Well, well, well. Minister Flaherty is being called a hypocrite. Shortly after he delivered a "hold the line" budget with some freezes and cutbacks, he hops a government private jet and heads to London, Ontario for a speech aimed at selling his budget. A budget that contains a freeze on ministerial budgets. If he had taken a commercial flight it would have cost about 800 dollars. Taking a private jet $9000. Interesting.
His media person was trying to justify the cost by saying that the Minister's schedule would not allow him to take a commercial flight. What hubris! One's schedule, particularly a Minister's, is what they say it should be. Here's an idea. Sell all the government private jets so the option doesn't exist. Let's see what that does to his schedule then.

Changing O Canada
Posted 3/4/2010 10:09:00 AM
Well, technically, changing it back. The original English translation of O Canada (it was composed in French) didn't have "in all thy sons command".
Are you really upset about this? Is it a controversy? Or are certain media types just looking for something to gripe about now that the Olympics are over?
It doesn't bother me, one way or the other. What does bother me is that this could actually be a debate in this country. I would much rather see people discussing or even protesting federal budget cuts to organizations that actually do something to help women. Especially, economically disadvantaged single parent families. Isn't that a real controversy?
