    Upgrades To Weston And Brooklands Public Services
    The Weston Community Centre and Pacific Dee Park in Winnipeg are in line for a 400-thousand dollar upgrade.There will be major site improvements at the community centre, while the park is getting a splash pad worth 200-thousand dollars. Lisa Janke of the Nor'West Co-op Community Health Centre says the investment is a welcome change for residents of Brooklands and Weston who have seen a loss of many private services in their community in recent years.

    Missing Winnipeg woman found alive in Belair Forest
    A Winnipeg woman missing in Belair Provincial Forest has been found alive. Manitoba Fire Commissioner Chris Jones tells CJOB the latest in the search for Nadia Monaco...  Monaco went missing Wednesday morning after being separated from a group of people picking mushrooms in the forest.

    Shooting in St. James sends one man to hospital
    A shooting in St. James over night sent one man to hospital in unstable condition. Police say the 40 year old man was shot once in the abdomen at 384 Rutland Street just before 1 o'clock. He underwent surgery and has since been upgraded to stable condition. No arrest has been made.

    Armed robbery at McPhillips' Subway
    Winnipeg Police have arrested one suspect and are seeking another after a Weston area restaurant was held up yesterday evening. At about 7 o'clock, two males entered the Subway restaurant at 305 McPhillips. One of them was armed with a gun, the other with bear spray. One suspect pointed the gun at the store clerk's face demanding cash. Both suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.  One suspect has since been arrested. No one was harmed during the incident.

    RCMP investigating Thompson homicide
    RCMP in Thompson are investigating what appears to be a homicide.    Officers were dispatched to a home Thursday afternoon to look into a complaint of an unresponsive woman inside the residence.    When they got there, they found a dead female.    Although the cause of death has not been determined, RCMP say they are treating it as a homicide.    An autopsy is scheduled to take place in Winnipeg on Friday.

    Paghtakhan faces challenger in civic election
    Mike Pagtakhan now faces a challenger for his Point Douglas council seat this fall... Herman Holla registered his campaign for the inner-city ward Thursday afternoon. It's not Holla's first run at a council seat... In 1989, he ran against Glen Murray and Sam Katz for the Fort Rouge council seat. In 1998, he challenged Harvey Smith in Daniel McIntyre. Transcona's Russ Wyatt and Dan Vandal of St. Boniface are the only remaining incumbent's in this civic election landscape. Citizens go to the polls October 27.

    17-year-old charged in Tuesday's downtown stabbing
    A 17 year old youth is charged with robbery with a weapon in connection with an incident on Portage Avenue downtown on Tuesday. At approximately 7:00 p.m. a group of males were in the area of the 300 block of Portage Avenue, when a 17 year old male suspect began arguing with a 47 year old male. The dispute escalated to the point where the accused pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim in the upper body. He then stole his backpack. Police in the area arrested the suspect in the area shortly after. The victim's condition in hospital has since been upgraded from critical to stable condition.

    Roughrider fans clamour for centennial loonies produced by Winnipeg's Mint
    Hundreds of fans lined up in Regina to get their hands on one of three million Saskatchewan Roughrider loonies unveiled by the Royal Canadian Mint.    The loonie, with a giant ``S'' on one side, was minted to help the football club celebrate its 100th anniversary.    James Love, chairman of the board of the mint, jokes that he thinks fans will be delighted to get the coin even if it was minted in Winnipeg, which is home to the Blue Bombers.    Love says he doubts the coins will see much circulation as fans pocket the collectible.    The Riders are only the second team to get centennial loonies after the mint introduced a one dollar coin to mark the Montreal Canadiens 100th anniversary last year.

    Court Orders Complainant To Turn Over Documents Regarding Judge
    The lawyer who gave nude pictures of his wife, a Manitoba judge, to a one-time client says the pictures were supposed to be private. CJOB's Tamara King has more.
