    Police still seeking person in connection with Hit and Run
    Winnipeg Police are hoping someone may know the driver of that car involved in a hit and run accident Thursday afternoon in the area of Osborne street and River avenue. Police say the female driver of a northbound vehicle on Osborne ran a red Light at River and hit a pedestrian. The 44 year old male victim is listed in stable condition at hospital. The suspect vehicle is a red or maroon 4 door vehicle and the driver was female, between 45-50 years old, with shoulder length graying hair, and a waist length patterned coat.     Heavy smoke damage at Danube drive home
    Damage was estimated at 250-thousand dollars following a fire early Friday afternoon at 43 Danube drive in the Northwest part of Winnipeg. Fire crews answered the alarm around 12:45pm. A fire had apparently started in a two car attached garage and there was smoke damage to the entire house. There were no injuries and the cause is under investigation..

    Winnipeggers break blood donor record
    Winnipeggers have broken a Canadian Blood Services National record for the most units of blood donated in a single day.. True North Sports and Entertainment and the Manitoba Moose teamed up with Canadian Blood Services to stage Friday's "Great Save" Blood Donor Clinic. It was the largest mobile blood donor clinic in Manitoba history. 477 units of blood were donated, beating out the previous record held by Toronto with 418.

    CNIB employees expected to strike Monday
    Employees for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind in Winnipeg are getting ready to walk off the job on Monday. The 19 employees, members of the United Food and Commercial workers union, rejected the CNIB's final contract offer on Thursday.. Union president Robert Ziegler says they're willing to accept a wage freeze in the first year of a new deal but not the proposed reductions to paid sick leave and long-term disability. The workers at the CNIB perform various duties assisting people living in the province who have visual impairment. Contract negotiations started in April of last year and a conciliator was appointed a few months later to help the two sides reach a deal.. Ziegler says the Union is willing to meet with the company over the weekend to resolve the outstanding issues and avoid a strike..

    Sinclair Family Wants Inquest Broadcast
    A judge has reserved his decision on whether television cameras should be allowed to cover the inquest into the death of Brian Sinclair. The 34 year old Sinclair died after spending 34 hours waiting for treatment in the emergency ward of the Health Sciences Center in 2008. Robert Sinclair, a cousin of the deceased tells CJOB the Sinclair family fully supports the proceedings be televised. Judge Tim Preston has reserved his decision until next Friday.

    Resources Officers Attend Funeral Without Department Vehicles
    The President of the Natural Resources Officers Association of Manitoba Geoffrey Smith is disappointed department vehicles were not allowed to participate in a funeral procession. A funeral for an officer who died of cancer is being held in Lloydminster, Alberta. Geoffrey Smith tells CJOB, he didn't think it would be a problem: The estimated cost of sending a three-vehicle procession from Manitoba was 25-hundred dollars. The Manitoba government did approve the use of a van, and time off for six representatives. The officers did not lose any salary.

    Police Chief & Mayor Reiterate Stand On Cadet Program
    Winnipeg Police Chief Keith McCaskill says it's time to move forward on the proposed cadet program. But Friday, the police chief and the mayor set the record straight on who said what.... when. Chief McCaskill tells CJOB, there was a committment from the province to help fund it: McCaskill says when a new justice minister assumed office, the idea went back to square one. Regardless, he hopes to meet with the province to get the program back on the agenda.

    Taxicab Board Moves Forward On Side Shields
    The Manitoba Taxicab Board has accepted the recommendation of its safety committee and decided to proceed with the mandatory use of sideshields for driver protection.  But Board Secretary Jerry Kozubal tells CJOB, there's still some work to do: It is expected those shields will in all taxis by the Summer. The board also plans to improve the driver training course and has approved the use of a top of car bright flashing strobe light to signal to the public the driver is in trouble.
