The Salvation Army is stepping into a local social services void.
It has announced plans to open a 2.2 million dollar centre for adults with autism in Hamilton next year. Construction begins this spring.
The center is being built at a Salvation Army-owned property on Main Street East, through a combination of provincial funding and local fundraising.
Major Byron Jacobs notes that services for adults with autism are currently limited or non-existent, leaving them isolated from the community.
