Hamilton's top cop has had a royal send-off.
Thirty-five years after becoming a constable, Chief Brian Mullan is calling it a career.
Among hundreds in attendance at Tuesday night's retirement celebration at the Hamilton Convention Centre, Premier Dalton McGuinty and the Honourable Lincoln Alexander.
Police Services Board Chair Bernie Morelli says the police service's achievements during Chief Mullan's tenure are many, including cracking down on drug activity, shutting down the Sandbar Tavern and a gun amnesty program which saw over 1,200 firearms surrendered.
Mullan says he's proud of his achievements and is sad to leave and adds he was blessed to be able to serve this community.
His replacement will be named any day now.
Mullan's last day on the job is December 31st.
