Halton Regional Police have charged a man in connection with what they say was a distraction theft this past summer.
Police say that on the afternoon of August 26th, an Oakville woman was walking in the area of Parklane Road when a vehicle pulled up next to her.
The male driver chatted with the woman and then began to cry, claiming that he was giving away souvenirs in memory of his mother.
When the woman subsequently approached the vehicle, a female passenger in the car put a ring on the woman's finger and a necklace around her neck.
The vehicle then drove away and the woman realized that her own gold necklace had been removed while she had been interacting with the couple.
On Friday, 29-year old Guta Stancu of Toronto was arrested and charged with theft.
An arrest warrant has been issued for a 35-year old Toronto woman.
