Report into snow clearing efforts being prepared
Ken Mann
1/2/2013

Snow clearing efforts are a main topic of discussion at City Hall this week.

Darrell Smith, Hamilton's Manager of Road Operations confirms that a report is being prepared for city politicians that will outline "things that we did well" and "things we have to improve" following the snowfall on Boxing Day.

Smith says the report should be completed next week.

Councillor Sam Merulla claims that entire neighbourhoods were missed by private contracted snowplows and he's calling for compensation "for a service that wasn't delivered".  Smith doesn't go that far, but he does acknowledge problems where subdivisions were missed.

Smith adds that contributing factors include having a number of new contractors and the fact that it was the city's first "significant snowfall event" in nearly two years.

Perhaps plowing streets that have already been plower is an issue. I cleared my driveway. The snowplows reflow the street and move the snow another six inches toward the curb and I have to clean the driveway AGAIN while an adjacent street was done in an unsatisfactory manner. This happened three times. The City needs to to reassess the whole plowing issue. What incompetence.

They plowed my street...only in the middle. About 2 meters left from the driveways on both side. 2 cars can hardly pass each other, and not to mansion when somebody is trying to park on the street. They did a lousy job. I hope somebody will do something about it...
