Job posting encourages working over sitting around

Saying it's next to impossible to fill job openings, the owner of Hillbilly Heaven on Upper James has taken out an eye catching ad on Kijiji.

Cameron Bailey is expanding his business and plans to open up a downtown location -- and needs to hire three people.

Fairly simple right? Not so, according to Bailey.

Of the applicants he called back during a recent hiring process, half didn't return his call, 75% didn't show up for an interview and 30% accepted a job but then didn't come to work the first day.

Bailey says it's easy in the electronic age to fire off resumes online and then 'go watch TV' and he believes some people just do it so they can prove to the government they are actually looking for work.

In fact, he says he's had people get all excited about working for him, but then decide to just stay at home on welfare or unemployment after crunching some numbers.

The ad says "we know that Ontario's overly generous unemployment and OW systems make it seem pointless to accept a job but we want people that are better than that".

It also says if you want a job, show up this afternoon between two and four and be prepared for a twenty minute interview.

Bailey is looking for free publicity for his restaurant. I'm not sure why the media takes him seriously.
