The agency that runs Copps Coliseum, the Convention Centre and Hamilton Place has chipped away at the subsidy taxpayers hand over to run the facilities.
However, that doesn't mean that HECFI doesn't need help to cover last year's losses.
HECFI says it needs between 350 and 425-thousand dollars in extra money to cover the 2012 deficit.
The exact figure will be known once the agency tallies the take from December.
That is on top of the 2.8-million dollar annual grant the city handed over last spring.
Mounting deficits and the annual requests for extra cash were the reasons behind the city taking back the reigns of HECFI and finding outside partners to run the faculties.
That handover becomes official in March.
