An Ontario court judge has finalized the settlement in the class action suit against Joseph Brant Hospital after a deadly outbreak of C. difficile in 2007.
The settlement is for 9-million dollars.
Its after 91 patients died and 200 others became ill in an outbreak that was found to be longer and deadlier than originally thought.
The hospital has made numerous changes since the outbreak including more rapid tests to detect C. diff, a full-time infection disease specialist and prompt placement of patients into isolation on first symptoms of diarrhea.
