The plan to cap hundreds of thousands of metres of coal tar within a giant steel box in Hamilton Harbour is also the subject of a public meeting this week.
The open house is being held at the Waterfront Banquet and Conference Centre on Wednesday --- from 3-until-5 in the afternoon and again from 6-until-8 in the evening.
The federal and provincial governments, along with a variety of local partners, have each committed to funding one-third of the cost of the 139 million dollar project which involves containing the contaminated sediment at Randle Reef.
One of the local partners, U.S. Steel, is providing 10 thousand tonnes of hot rolled sheet steel towards the containment box.
Randle Reef has been identified as Canada's second most contaminated sediment site.
