The Hamilton Public School Board is receiving nearly 40-million dollars in provincial funding for new school construction.
32-million dollars will be used to build a new high school in the city's core to replace Delta, Sir John A. MacDonald and Parkview by the 2014/15 school year.
The rest of the funding will help create additions at Saltfleet High School and G.R. Allen Elementary.
Board chair Tim Simmons says he's "absolutely ecstatic."
Simmons told CHML's Bill Kelly Show the 40-million dollar capital investment is "nearly 12 per cent of the total $350-million that the province is giving out, and that's significant considering the number of board in this province."
But the province will not provide the 50-million dollars that is needed for a new high school to replace Hill Park, Barton, Mountain, and Parkside.
Simmons says they will have to create a new business plan, but remains optimistic the timeline for a new high school on the south mountain will be met.
