Royal Connaught plans become clearer

There's more information trickling out about the planned redevelopment of the former Royal Connaught Hotel.

Ted Valeri and Rudi Spallacci have issued a news release saying part of their proposed 700-unit condominium development should be built and ready for occupants as soon as 2015.

The project is being called "The Residences of Royal Connaught".

The developers add that they aim to have a presentation centre open within the old hotel's lobby this coming summer.

Valeri stresses that they want to bring the property back and "make people proud of this iconic address once again".

The first phase of the project is expected include 135 suites built behind the original façade of the two existing Connaught buildings.   Timelines for the remainder of the development are not clear.

Will they proceed if city council agrees to a casino downtown? I have never seen condos built around casinos and I believe it is because no one wants to live near a casino. I would buy a unit, but not it a casino is a go ahead.
