Bulldogs fire assistant coach
CHML
1/22/2013

The Hamilton Bulldogs have fired assistant coach Ron Wilson.

Wilson spent nine seasons with the club since 2003.

Head Coach Sylvain Lefebvre says "This was a difficult decision to make, but due to a difference in philosophy, we felt it was best to part ways."

Hamilton are last in the American Hockey League with a record of 13-21-1-5

The Bulldogs visit Lake Erie on Saturday.

Ron Wilson seemed to work best with former Head Coach Don Lever. They actually won the Calder Cup with the Bulldogs together. Wilson should have found some way to stick with Lever. In fact, to this day, I've always thought that the Bulldogs made a crucial mistake in firing Don Lever in the first place. They really haven't been the same team since then.

firing Ron now is like putting a bandaid on a compound fracture as far as curing the team's ills. He has been with organization since the mid 1980's when he played for the Habs farm club in Halifax. The organization's decision to not sign more experienced AHL players at the start of the season to act as mentors to the young guys is really showing. I'm hoping Commodore is signed once his PTO expires which can't be too far away.
