Some politicians angry with comments after firing of city workers

There are some clear divisions in messaging around the Hamilton City Council table following this week's firing of 29 public works employees.

Councillor Scott Duvall has teed off on quotes attributed to Public Works Committee Chair Lloyd Ferguson describing as disgusting the Ancaster Councillor's statement that two employees who were suspended "were only suspended because they exercised one of our values which is honesty, they told us the truth when we interviewed them".

Duvall feels accusing the others of being a liar was "inappropriate".

The Ward 7 Councillor also warns that such comments could put the city at risk during arbitration and agues that statements should be coming from the "management level only".

Ferguson's questioning about whether the city needs to replace the fired workers since "they're working a half hour day" is another sore point.

Speaking as a member of city council, Duvall adds that "we don't hire people, we don't fire people, we don't discipline people".
