The Hamilton Police Arson Unit is probing a fire at a building in the area of Emerald Street North and King Street East.
Fire crews were called there at 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon to put out a blaze in an apartment.
The tenant was home at the time but fortunately was not hurt.
Officials are calling the fire suspicious and have called in the Fire Marshall to assist with the investigation.
