A few reminders from the Hamilton Fire Department as you head out to shovel snow.
Public Information Officer Claudio Mostacci reminds residents that in addition to their driveways and sidewalks they also need to remember to shovel an area around fire hydrants.
Mostacci adds that failing to do so can substantially delay responding firefighters and impact efforts to save lives and minimize property damage.
He adds that vent pipes from furnaces and hot water heaters can easily be buried in snow drifts as well, and should be attended to. Mostacci stresses that carbon monoxide can back up.
Other safety reminders include clearing entrances and safety exists and not warming up a vehicle inside of an attached garage.
