Pope Benedict is resigning
CHML
2/11/2013

Pope Benedict XVI has announced that he will resign February 28.

Benedict will become the first pontiff to resign in nearly 600 years.

The 85-year-old made the announcement during a meeting of Vatican cardinals this morning.

Pope Benedict said that because of his advanced age and diminishing strength, he didn't feel he could carry on the job.

The decision sets the stage for a conclave to elect a new pope before the end of March.

He is intelligent. He does not want to be the pope in times when the church is totally declining and loosing congregations. There was no possibility for reforms under his guidance because he is committed to what he said when he came into being a pope.
Many Catholics believe that the 1000 yr. rule of priests not be able to get married and only single men can serve the church should be changed and make it so that there be an option. Many may want to serve the church but they understand that they also have their desire to become married and to have children's. I also think that it is time that we interact with churches that is in the same line with us as Christians and share and promote that morality and may even be sharing spaces with each other. We have bigger problems then just the churches. Our governments is the bigger offender of morality. The way they heartlessly pass bills for squeezing every penny out of the working class and those who have the least to contribute. No thoughts of their actions at all. They are rude and short sited and lovers of them self and of their terms only having in a front of day eyes the pensions they will collect. So , they accommodate all kinds of groups to get their votes. God will bring down all such that is not governing with fairness.

I agree with Maria to a point. For moral reasons, church is important. The shortage of priests and elders alike is a problem the present Pope can not deal with. The Church will continue to loose it's importance until some younger and progressive thinkers are installed in Rome.
But please, don't blame government for the mess out there. We all need to look in the mirror first.

I have to commend him for stepping down , he is doing it on his own terms rather than passing away in power like most Popes have. As far as blaming the Government as being the biggest offender of Morality , that is not an accurate statement. People should have enough common sense to be able to judge for themselves what is morally correct and what isn't. Some people aren't wired correctly and that has nothing to do with Government. The church has always tried to get involved in political issues, and they should butt out . Look at most of the wars that have been fought and are still being fought, the root cause usually always involves religion & religious differences.
I am not of the Catholic faith , but I will not knock this man for what he believes in , that is his right , Wish him all the best.

Yes, the government is the biggest offenders of morality because it is that whom passing laws that is contradictory with morality. Also we should expect to have the pointed ones to behave as leaders with outstanding ways with morale values.
Yes, they are robbing us taxpayers in every time they have a chance. So, that is to show that there is a decline in good judgments and honesty.

@MariaR_6861 Stop blaming the Government for lack of morals, they may make and pass laws , but they do not program ones mind to what is right and wrong. Besides the people are the ones that elect them . Society is mostly to blame for the state of the way things are now, bleeding heart Liberals that get offended by the way parents discipline their children when they misbehave , and then get bent out of shape when these unruly kids break the law, only to say that we should forgive and rehab these offenders. The punishment should fit the crime regardless of age.
Ones moral compass is influenced at a young age usually by what we are taught or by what is demonstrated as to what is right or wrong, Government only plays a very small role . I think the church is more influential in corrupting society , go to confession , confess your sins and all is forgiven, what does that teach young minds.

    To Who Cares.
Are we going to change laws each times we have an elections.? Of course not.
Of course one can only have what we want if the governments allowed us to it
It really does not matter what political party facilitate new ideas from certain groups with a certain believe. The point is society can only have it if the governments in agreements with society will push for changes and reforms. I think in all aspects of life when the decisions making fall on the governments they do not way it with enough thoughts. They look at more the numbers then the outcome of the decisions. So, they fell into facilitating new ideas of some members of the society . Avery actions will have a reaction. It might take 30 yrs. but it will then be to late to turn things around. So, I believe those who lead us should be people of high standards. We need to trust in some higher authorities
to have some kinds of balance in our lifes. But, now days each day the new day is in, we hear that the governments passed some new things again . So fast , that is faster then the speed of light they implements new rules , common law rules, but it stands for ages to come. It is not right to do that with out proper studies . They do not ask us they just do it. So, it is not society's fault because we really were not consulted . We never get what is good for us. We get what is been decided behind closed door. Yes, they will make comments that it will serve society well. They reassure us so that we obey to them willingly.
