Anti-poverty activists in Hamilton are hailing Ted McMeekin's new role in cabinet.
The Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale M-P-P has been sworn in as Minister of Community and Social Services.
McMeekin takes over at a time when the Hamilton Roundtable For Poverty Reduction is hopeful of social services reform in Ontario.
Roundtable Director Tom Cooper notes that they've already worked closely with McMeekin to secure transitional funding in response to provincial cuts to "start-up benefits".
If the Liberals do push ahead with reforms, Cooper suggests that McMeekin will have "more responsibility" than any previous Minister of Community and Social Services over the past generation.
