Public School renos to proceed
Hamilton Spectator
2/12/2013

Hamilton's Public School Board is going ahead with construction and renovation plans for six area schools despite some sticker shock.

The board was finally able to get some solid numbers now that the 41-million dollars in provincial funding has been finalized.

The original estimate for renovations at GR Allan School and Dalewood was set at almost 6-million dollars.

However, the latest finance report says the cost over the next five years is closer to 19-million dollars.

Renovations to GR Allan will include full-day kindergarten classrooms, three new classrooms and a new gym.

10-million of that is slated for Dalewood, which will get no provincial money.

The cash flow analysis also listed four other expected projects.

About 34.5-million dollars for a new north end high school, 27-million for a south high school, and 15-million towards the Highland Secondary School renovation.

Saltfleet is also slotted to get a 5.4-million dollar addition.
