Saying they can't afford to keep schools partially empty, trustees with the Hamilton Public School Board are looking at as many as 76 elementary schools for potential closure.
The study will come over the next five years.
Board chair Tim Simmons tells the CBC, if a school is on the list, that doesn't necessarily mean it will close.
It simply means it will be studied to look at the number of students, programming and building needs, as well as its location.
The study will start this fall and continue until 2018.
