A Hamilton man has issued an application to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice in Hamilton seeking the removal from office of Hamilton Wentworth District School Board Trustee Judith Bishop.
The application also asks the court to void last April's 6-5 board decision to close Prince Philip School.
Mark Coakley's allegation is that Bishop contravened the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act in voting twice last April to close and sell Prince Philip School and to spend those funds refurbishing two schools in a neighbourhood where she lives and owns a home.
Coakley's lawyer, Craig Burley, stresses that a voiding of the school closure would "allow the board to take that up again".
Residents of the Ainslie Wood neighbourhood have expressed concerns about falling property values if they lose the last remaining public school in their neighbourhood.
