The McMaster Marauders battled past the Western Mustangs to claim the OUA men's volleyball title in four sets.
Set scores were 25-27, 26-24, 32-30 and 25-20 for the CIS #2 ranked Marauders, who overcame a setback in the opening frame and consistent struggles from the service line to win their fourth conference banner in the past six seasons.
Mac's Jori Mantha was recognized as the Most Valuable Player of the Final Four for his combined efforts on Friday and Saturday nights.
McMaster now awaits its seeding for the CIS Championships.
But with the top ranked Alberta Golden Bears' loss Saturday night, the Marauders could well claim the top spot in the eight-team national tournament.
The Nipissing Lakers won the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association Men's Volleyball Championship, but they were given a real scare by the Mohawk Mountaineers Saturday.
Mohawk, which had to qualify to make it to the event at Oakville's Sheridan College as the lowest seed in the West Region, shocked both the Redeemer Royals and Algonquin Thunder to get to the final.
The gold medal game was a see-saw battle in which the Lakers simply outlasted the Mountaineers, 25-16, 20-25, 25-21, 22-25, 15-7.
