A Hamilton MPP has taken the plight of soaring insurance rates for cab drivers to Queen's Park.
In the legislature today, Paul Miller called on the Liberal government to probe why operators are facing premiums of 16 to 20 thousand dollars.
Local taxicab drivers have also taken the issue to City Hall where they staged a protest two weeks ago.
They say in some cases, rates are rising by as much as 400 per cent, which makes working in the profession unaffordable.
Miller says what a cabbie pays should be based on his or her driving record. He says he got assurance from the Finance Minister that he would look into the issue and Miller has vowed not to let up on it.
