A new pilot program aimed at easing flooding in some of the commonly hit Hamilton neighbourhoods will launch in the spring.
Green Venture will install 500 litre rain barrels at 23 homes to divert water from the sewage system.
Downspouts will be disconnected from the underground system and will be replaced with the barrells.
Green Venture says each disconnect will divert about 23 thousand litres of storm water from the system every year.
The agency is looking for homeonwers to try out the plan, but it comes at a cost.
They'll have to pay between 50 and 200 dollars for the service based on income.
The rain barrels normally retail for $290 and the installation will be done at no charge.
