Ticats won't host Labour Day Classic
Rick Zamperin
3/5/2013

The CFL schedule has officially been released.

The Ticats will not host the Labour Day Classic in Guelph this year.

The controversial decision marks the second time in three years that the CFL's greatest rivals will not meet during the league's marque weekend.

Scheduling conflicts in Guelph and Toronto are to blame.

The Gryphons host the University of Windsor at Alumni Stadium on Monday September 2 and the Toronto Blue Jays wrap up a series against the Kansas City Royals at Rogers Centre on September 1.

Rogers Centre officials say the Dome can't be reconfigured from baseball to football in time for the Labour Day clash between the provincial foes.

It will also be the first time since 1949 that only one professional Canadian football game will be played on Labour Day, that game being Edmonton at Calgary.

Hamilton will instead play in B.C. on August 30, before hosting the rematch against the Lions on September 7.

The Ticats will entertain the Toronto Argonauts on Thanksgiving Monday.

And the Cats will play in Moncton for the second time in three years when they host the Montreal Alouettes on September 21.

Hamilton opens the regular season in Toronto June 28.

The Ticats' home opener at Alumni Stadium will be July 7 against the Edmonton Eskimos, one of seven games in Guelph that will be played on a weekend.
