Supercrawl organizer defends budget request
Ken Mann
3/11/2013

The organizer of one of Hamilton's fastest growing cultural events insists that they are "extremely accountable".

Supercrawl's Tim Potocic stresses that they are doing their best to navigate a "very complicated process" in regards to seeking grant money from the city.

Potocic says that has included providing economic development reports and audited statements, but he stresses that they've outgrown the grants program which he describes as "broken".

He is vice-chair of the Arts Funding Task Force which will seek changes and more funding for festivals and events when it makes a proposal to Hamilton politicians later this spring.

Supercrawl is going into its fifth year.  Potocic notes that their budget has doubled every year since it started.

City politicians voted down the event's 125 thousand dollar request during a budget meeting last week with suburban councillors claiming that it was not following the established process.

That decision will be up for reconsideration at a City Council meeting later this month.
