One high-profile local Liberal feels that Marc Garneau made the "right decision".
Larry Di Ianni says the former astronaut understood that he was not going to win the party's leadership and that the country is ready for some "generational change".
Di Ianni adds that he respects Garneau for that and for making "the right decision".
He calls Garneau a "Canadian hero" who has advanced the country's cause in science, distinguished himself as a federal politician and added substance to the federal Liberal leadership debate.
In throwing in the towel, Garneau says he'll continue to be a loyal Liberal soldier and has thrown his support behind Justin Trudeau, who he doesn't think anyone can catch.
Voting for a new party leader will be conducted online and by phone early next month, with the winner to be announced on April 14th.
