Hamilton politicians are still trying to find the right balance as they deal with the problem of lawn parking in neighbourhoods around McMaster University and Mohawk College.
The planning committee has tabled a proposed bylaw that would ban the practice, as it struggles to create something that would not have any broader, unintended impacts.
The problem seems most severe in Ward 1, where some of Councillor Brian McHattie's neighbourhoods are now more than 60% student housing.
Councillor Brad Clark adds that they need to come up with something that addresses the "completely different needs" of two areas.
Hamilton's Director of Parking and Bylaw Services has stressed that whatever comes forward will not be aimed at festivals and events or the longtime east end tradition of parking on lawns during Tiger Cat games.
