A dubious distinction for a Hamilton high school.
Sir John A. Macdonald ranks near the bottom of schools in Ontario in the latest annual report card from the Frasier Institute.
It comes up with its rankings based on the standardized literacy and math skills tests.
It ranks Sir John A. Macdonald 704th out of the 725 schools.
It received a score of 1.9 out of a possible 10.
According to the Frasier Institute, the provincial average is 6 out of 10.
12 of Hamilton's schools are rated 6 or above.
But the Hamilton Public School Board's Jackie Penman tells the CBC, the rankings do nothing to tell them why the scores are high or low, and tend to distract people from work that improves learning for all students.
