Not all Hamilton Neighbourhoods are equal -- at least when it comes to air quality.
That is why Clean Air Hamilton wants more local monitoring.
Its new report says air pollution and the related health effects differ greatly from one Hamilton neighbourhood to another.
Clean Air Hamilton’s latest air quality progress report, due to be presented to the city’s board of health later this week, says the good news is Hamilton’s overall air quality has improved “dramatically” over the last decade.
But the report also says the results of an 11-neighbourhood air study conducted last year shows six areas with estimated “above-average mortality risk” associated with elevated air pollution, mostly near industrial areas and major transportation arteries.
