The Hamilton Media Advisory Council is comprised of members of the city's mainstream media, along with representatives of the diverse community. The Council's current mandate is to: Act as a conduit between media and Hamilton's diverse communities, meeting monthly; Facilitate race/immigration-related education, particularly involving issues in which media is integral (This would take the form of public forums, open houses, etc.) Organize/sponsor an annual youth contest involving issues of race/diversity Hear concerns, complaints related to media coverage/handling of issues of race/immigration.
*Special note: This would involve issue-based concerns only, not specific complaints against individual media properties. Other industry bodies, such as the Ontario Press Council and the Canadian Radio & Telecommunications Commission, are mandated to hear those types of complaints.
