Hamilton police have been using stun guns in the of duty and the numbers show their use is on the rise.
Figures in today’s Hamilton Spectator show police used their tasers 49 times last year.
That’s more than double the use from 2011.
A recent report on the use of stun guns shows that Hamilton police have between 12 and 15 tasers on the street at any given time.
Right now, the Hamilton Police have a total 66 tasers, most of which are used for training.
This comes just two days after the Ontario Government announced that police would be allowed a wider use of stun guns.
A move Hamilton Police Chief Glenn DeCaire supports.
