Just yesterday I was speaking about the important role that the Ontario Municipal Board plays in rectifying wrong-headed City Council decisions and later in the day, as if to underscore the point, the OMB ruled in favour of Lynwood Charlton Hall for their move to the Corktown neighbourhood.
This really should never have gone to the OMB in the first place.
Initially City Council based their opposition to Lynwood Charlton on a radial separation bylaw that the Human Rights Commission branded as illegal.
Council then resorted to inaccurate stereotyping, fear mongering and plain, old NIMBYism.
We saw the dark side of local politics and it wasn’t pretty.
Kudos to the handful of Councilors who refused to play the cronyism game and saw merit in the Lynwood Charlton application.
Hats off to a spirited and passionate community campaign of support for the project.
And congratulations to Lynwood Charlton for the great work they’ve done, and will continue to do in the Hamilton community.
