As the family of Steve Mesic waits for answers, they’re organizing a motorcycle ride in his memory for this Friday the 13th.
The Mesic family says the ride is in honour of Steve’s love for riding and the Friday the13th event in Port Dover.
It will start at T.B. McQuesten Park and will end in the Lake Erie community.
Participation is free but donations are appreciated for Steve’s fiance, Sharon and their unborn child due in October. There will also be a raffle at the end of the ride with proceeds going to the Second Chance House for Mental Relief.
Mesic died on June 7th after Hamilton Police responded for a call about a man walking in and out of traffic on the Lincoln Alexander Parkway.
There was a confrontation and Mesic was shot and killed. It was later revealed he had just signed himself out of St. Joseph Hospital’s mental health unit.
Mesic’s death is still under investigation by the Special Investigations Unit and has prompted questions about the length of time it has taken to complete in light of the shooting death of an 18 year old by Toronto Police at the end of July.
The shooting of SammyYatim on a TTC streetcar was caught on video and sparked public outrage and protests regarding police use of force. It even prompted Toronto’s Police Chief to review the incident and use of force by his members. The SIU completed their investigation into that incident within weeks and recommended laying a second degree murder charge against the officer involved.
